What kind of help do you need?

Need Urgent Help or Support?

Immediate emergency help

If you or anyone else is in immediate danger or harm then please call the Police or Ambulance Service on 999.  If you are on campus, please let the Security Team know that an ambulance has been called so they can guide it to your room.  The number is 01524 594541.

Non emergency medical or mental health help

If you do then it is crucial that you contact the right person and that is most likely to be your GP. They will know where to get you the specialist help you need.  The phone number for the Lancaster Medical Practice is tel: 01524 387780 and the web address is:

If your GP surgery is closed, you should call NHS 111 or if it is a genuine emergency call 999.

Use The NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it is not a life threatening situation.

Need to talk?

If you want to talk to someone about how you feel, what you’re experiencing or how to deal with someone else's behaviour, you can contact the Samaritans.

1. Lancashire Care Wellbeing and Mental Health

Call the free helpline on 0800 915 4640 (Monday to Friday 7pm-11pm, Saturday to Sunday 12pm-12am). The Helpline is a listening, information and emotional support service for those concerned about their own mental health, or that of someone they know.

2. The Samaritans

If you need someone to talk to, you can call the Samaritans on 116 123. This is a freephone number. They are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

3. Papyrus

HOPELineUK, run by Papyrus, is a confidential helpline, staffed by trained professionals who give support and advice to young people under the age of 35 feeling suicidal or anyone concerned about a young person. Call them on 0800 0684141 (Monday to Friday 10am-10pm, Saturday to Sunday 2pm-5pm).

For advice relating to rape and sexual assault

The Lancashire SAFE (Sexual Assault Forensic Examination) Centre provides forensic examinations, advice and comprehensive support services for women, men and children of all ages who make a complaint of rape or sexual assault. The Counselling and Mental Health service are available to support students who may wish to receive support in relation to rape and sexual assault.
